Designed by Georg Trump between 1951 and 1955 and released by the Weber type foundry in Germany, Delphin I is a beautiful roman typeface with strong calligraphic leanings.

All of Trump’s calligraphic typefaces are notable for their beauty and elegance. The lowercase letters of Delphin I are slightly inclined, with ascenders that are much taller than the capitals. The h, k, p, and y make Delphin I easy to identify, along with the capitals K and R, which have tails that taper to a point.

It is a fine typeface for advertising display work and commonly appears in film titles. Delphin II is a companion typeface to Delphin I, which is lighter in weight. Delphin II is unusual in that very little of the verve and definition of the lighter weight is lost in the translation to semibold, a tribute to Trump’s genius as a type designer. Delphin II is a display face that can be used successfully in books, newsletters, magazines, and advertising.
