ITC Galliard is an adaptation of Matthew Carters 1978 phototype design for Mergenthaler. Galliard was modeled on the work of Robert Granjon, a sixteenth-century letter cutter, whose typefaces are renowned for their beauty and legibility. Matthew Carter combined his design skills with computer-aided technology to produce this elegant revival.
ITC Galliard is a notable typeface for text; the italic is very distinctive in occasional pieces such as invitations and informal announcements.
