Other people tell me that Rotterdam looks like extremely modernized art deco, but, as far as I am aware of, the inspiration is hidden in a forgotten dream.

As Rotterdam is inspired by nothing there is no other font with a similar look.
At second thought you could call it art deco after a very intensive face-lift, probably useful in many decades to come.
Rotterdam comes in three weights - all in roman and italic. Legibility is great although I do not recommend it for a thriller. It is stylish and very modern.
A basic feature is the tight letter-spacing. For a consequent look ligatures are left out deliberately. But many pairs come with automatic kerning.
At first glance it may look like a font for headings, posters and logos but actually it is pretty legible. Don't believe me? Try it out for yourself!
