Mettle is a two-weight family which explores legibility in highly-simplified forms.
Mettle began its life in 1997 as a low-resolution font created for website navigation. Later, the font took on more interesting properties as a proper outline version emerged from primitive bitmap forms in 2003.
The family is notable in that changes in weight force forms to fill in while retaining legibility.
