Gerard Unger

Dutch type designer, typographer and graphic designer active with Hell, Oce, the BBC and Bitstream. He is visiting professor at the University of Reading, England.

Unger has specialized in high-legibility type design, such as the sans serif he designed for Dutch road signs.

A major 1998 commission was to design a new serif typeface for the city of Rome’s Year 2000 activities. The design, called Capitolium, is inspired by the work of Renaissance writing master Cresci.
