The word cherub is Hebrew. The plural form is cherubim. Cherubim are most frequently represented as small angels, children with wings, with chubby faces and rosy cheeks. This is called an artistic convention. It is not based on an historical or theological research, but merely on the fact that human beings want cherubs to look cute.
