Chromatic fonts are designed to be superimposed in separate colors to achieve special typographic effects. Their use was prominent during the 1800s — especially throughout America — when chromatic wood type was often used to print circus posters, large-format broadside advertisements, etc. However, modern-day type designers still utilize the same general concepts of interrelated multi-color typography to achieve striking contemporary effects.
