In 1995, when indie rock hipness was just reaching its pique, Chank was really into Jawbox, a post-punk band from DC. It was their music he was listening to when he made this font for the Space Ghost web site. The band broke up in 1997, but the font named in their honor lives on. Captain Comic is very loosely based on lettering from 1967 to the early 1970s found in the very first Star Trek comic series ever published, the Gold Key one. By very loosely we mean most letter shapes were changed, rounded and tweaked for a more contemporary comic text look. The original lettering was uncredited, as was the entire series artwork for a whole decade, though research shows that four Italian artists were mainly responsible for it: Nevio Zeccara, Alberto Giolitti, Giovanni Ticci and Giorgio Cambiotti.

Working on The Lab late one night, evil comic book genius Scott Christian Sava realized their was something missing from his graphic experiment! Busted is the very strange and out-of-character outburst of Bill Troop, a guy who was classically trained in everything, from classical piano and literature to classical photography and type design. As far as we could tell, Bill Troop is the kind of guy whose appearance and voice instantly trigger thoughts of black and white photos, fedoras, and pre-industrial age Europe. A few years ago, he even moved from the United States to England, where it took him less than a week to feel at home and start sounding like a Norwich native.
