Throw in the special “WordLogos”, tons of ligatures and foreign accented characters, and you have a recipe for typesetting that approaches the look of hand-lettering. It was inspired by hand-lettered titles in Fleischer Brothers' Superman cartoon series. The font includes some extra features when used with OpenType-savvy applications including case-sensitive punctuation, automatic fractions, and extended language support. A handy user guide is included to help get the most out of Snicker’s OpenType features.

Bossa Nova is syncopated rhythms and understated emotion. Capture its essence with the typeface of the same name, based on hand lettering by an uncredited scribe in a 1946 copybook. MvB Design commissioned Holly Goldsmith of Small Cap Graphics to complete Bossa Nova’s character set and to modify the characters for digital type. The sensuous curves and unique lines grab attention at display sizes, yet it remains remarkably readable in short copy blocks. The result is a strong, graphic baseline with a left to right movement. Another intention was to design a typeface that had 3 degrees more slant than the common 6 degrees found in many script faces. One could say that the 9 degree backbone gives NineVolt extra verve and vigor. The main design goal was to achieve a quick repetition of hard angles that move along the baseline. Once the font is set in text, it has the quality of having a continuous straight line along the baselines. This "ink-line" serves as a vehicle to communicate and resemble rule lines, drafting, and note taking.

The project began with the supposition that we often select typefaces based on their personality. Criteria in the psuedo-science of graphology was juxtaposed with major aspects of type design. For example, a graphologist would look at a person’s pen pressure to determine their vitality and spirit. A bold hand would equate that he or she might be very self-assured and energetic. A type designer can create a heavier weight typeface that follows this idea. In the case of Reflux, the handwriting sample for which it was based on, revealed a person who tended to be philosophical in nature and a spontaneous thinker.
