All the characters are based in the same formal principle with its corresponding optical adjustments in order to adapt the system to an alphabet for texts. Fedra Sans was originally commissioned by Paris-based Ruedi Baur Integral Design and developed as a corporate font for Bayerische Rück, a German insurance company, as part of their new visual identity. According to the commissioner, the objective was to 'de-protestantize Univers', the typeface which Bayerische Rück had been using since Otl Aicher designed their first visual identity in the 1970s. The typeface reflects the original brief: it humanises the communicated message and adds simple, informal elegance. The most important criterion was to create a typeface which works equally well on paper and on the computer screen, and is consistent across all computer platforms.

Mr Jones was originally conceived as a family for print design consisting of a sans and a headline. Reflux is a result from a study based on handwriting analysis. The project began with the supposition that we often select typefaces based on their personality. Criteria in the psuedo-science of graphology was juxtaposed with major aspects of type design. For example, a graphologist would look at a person’s pen pressure to determine their vitality and spirit. A bold hand would equate that he or she might be very self-assured and energetic. A type designer can create a heavier weight typeface that follows this idea. In the case of Reflux, the handwriting sample for which it was based on, revealed a person who tended to be philosophical in nature and a spontaneous thinker.
